Black Mountain Banding Station-Saw-whet Owl Field Trip
|
Join us at the Black Mountain Banding Station for a night of northern saw-whet owl banding! These pint sized owls migrate south through our forests in the autumn and research under the guidance of Project Owlnet is helping scientists and the public learn more about their movements and their needs from a conservation perspective. Licensed bander Lindsay Herlihy will explain how saw-whet owl banding works, why these owls are fascinating, and why the Black Mountain Banding Station is contributing data to Project Owlnet. If we're lucky, we'll capture, band, and release some northern saw-whet owls!
This field trip involves hiking over uneven/steep ground in the dark, with a flashlight or headlamp. Dogs are not permitted. Children are welcome with an accompanying guardian; however, this field trip may not be appropriate for small children as it is VERY dark in the forest at this hour.
