Join us on the slopes to celebrate the Forest Society’s 125th birthday—on our actual anniversary date! 🎉
To mark this milestone, Forest Society members are invited to enjoy a special Ski Day at Mount Sunapee State Park, with deeply discounted lift tickets:
This day is both a thank-you to our members and a celebration of a place that is central to our history. This offer is available to Forest Society members only. Registration is free and required to access the discounted $35 lift ticket, which members will purchase directly at Mount Sunapee on the day of the event. A legacy rooted in Mount Sunapee: The Forest Society played a foundational role in protecting Mount Sunapee for public benefit. In 1912, we raised funds to purchase the first 656 acres on the mountain’s north side, helping to launch what became a growing conserved landscape of more than 2,100 acres, then known as the “Mount Sunapee Reservation.” In 1914, the Forest Society published the Manual of Mt. Sunapee by Philip Ayers, documenting the natural and recreational significance of the area. Despite major disturbances—including the Great Hurricane of 1938 and a 1947 forest fire sparked by lightning near Lake Solitude—pockets of resilient, old-growth forest remain on the mountain’s upper north- and east-facing slopes. In 1948, the Forest Society transferred its Mount Sunapee holdings to the State of New Hampshire, paving the way for the establishment of Mount Sunapee State Park and ensuring this special place would be protected and enjoyed by generations to come. We hope you’ll join us on February 6 to ski, celebrate, and reflect on 125 years of foresight, stewardship, and shared connection to New Hampshire’s forests. Not a member? Become one today!
